I wonder what's the problem, why has an editor like TextMate gone so far in just a few years and Emacs is still not there yet. I don't think it'll beat any major editor that do HTML, but it somewhat helps because by default it does syntax coloring various languages that are used together with HTML. Web dev is probably the largest segment in the programing industry. These people, when they took a look at emacs, they laugh, and rightfully so. Fortunately, lacking proper syntax coloring isn't much problem.

First, I must apologize for the use of acronyms — nobody wants programming languages spelled out, though. Most of the acronyms in this article will be referring to programming languages. Programming languages are just like spoken languages. If you want to order some nice wine, better learn French or Spanish.
And fitting in with this trend is the encouragement of web developers to be able to create designs for SharePoint sites without needing to know too in-depth knowledge about ASP. Now, designers were able to this perfectly well in previous versions of SharePoint, granted that they became familiar with dealing with extremely bloated markup, most of which SharePoint needed to provide its rich functionality. All we had to do was learn which bits never to remove and to build designs in and around the dozens and dozens of lines of code that SharePoint uses. Randy Drisgill has kept the design world in SharePoint much more manageable with his stripped-down master pages which contain only the markup that SharePoint needs to get itself working. More importantly, if the Design Manager really is the better way forward for designers to go.
